Cursed Text Generator
Make your text look haunted. Type below and copy a cursed style, from a faint flicker to full horror with eyes, skulls and candles.
What the badges under each style mean
Each badge grades the rarest characters a style uses, so a style is only rated as safe as its riskiest character. Nothing here is rated as working unless there is a reason behind it.
- ✓ works observed rendering in that field.
- ! disputed sources contradict each other and none of them is primary.
- ? untested no public evidence either way. This does not mean it fails.
- ✗ blocked the platform was seen returning a real error for it.
- Instagram For your bio, display name and captions. Your @username takes only lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores, so no style on this site works there.
- Discord For messages, server nicknames and your About Me. Your @username is lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores only, so no style on this site works there.
- Roblox For your display name only. A Roblox username is letters, numbers and one underscore, so no style on this site works there. Grades come from the evidence table further down this site's Roblox page.

What is cursed text?
Cursed text is text that looks haunted, corrupted or just wrong. It is usually built from two ingredients: stacked Unicode combining marks that make each letter look like it is leaking or warping, and dark symbols such as skulls, candles, eyes, webs and chains placed around the words. There is no single cursed font. It is a look, which is why this page gives you a spread of them instead of one.
Everything here is real text made of Unicode characters, not an image. You copy it, paste it, and it stays text you can select and search, which is why it works in bios, captions, messages and game chats without installing anything.
How to make cursed text
- Type or paste your words into the box above.
- Every cursed style rewrites them live, with different marks and different symbols around the text.
- Tap the one you like. It is copied automatically.
- Paste it wherever you want the haunting to happen.
A short phrase works far better than a sentence. Cursed text is readable for a word or two and quickly turns into noise after that.
The cursed styles explained
- Cursed and Cursed Heavy: the base effect, light and heavy. Heavy piles most of its marks below the line, so it looks like the text is dripping.
- Eyes, Skull, Candle, Web and Chains: the same haunted text with a symbol on each side. Pick by mood: eyes for watched, skull for grim, candle for seance, web for spooky, chains for trapped.
- Cursed Gothic: blackletter lettering with the haunted marks on top. The most formal of the set, closest to a horror movie title.
- Cursed Whisper: small capitals with marks hanging below. Quieter, and good for text that should look like it is being murmured.
- Cursed Mirror: the text reversed, with the marks applied after, for a backwards look.
- Zalgo Intense, Upside Down, Mirrored and the dark symbol wraps: extra darker styles from the main catalog that fit the same theme.
Cursed text versus zalgo text
The two share an engine, so the effect on the letters is similar. The difference is what the page is for. The zalgo text generator is the raw effect at an intensity you pick, with no decoration. Cursed text is that effect plus the styling people expect from the word “cursed”: skulls, candles, eyes and gothic lettering. If you want a broken-screen look that stays easier to read, the glitch text generator is the better match.
Where cursed text works
Bios, captions, comments, messages and chat all take it in most apps, because combining marks and the symbols are standard Unicode. Things to know before you paste:
- Clipping. Many apps cut text off at the line height, so heavy marks can be sliced. Give it a blank line above and below.
- Name fields. Some usernames and display names strip or refuse combining marks. Test a short sample first, and keep your actual handle plain so people can still find you.
- Character limits. Each mark counts, so heavy styles use up a limit quickly. Lighter styles fit far more.
- Emoji symbols. The skull, eye and candle are emoji on most phones, so they take on each device's own artwork.
Tips for cursed text that works
- Keep it to a few words. A username, a title or a single line of a caption.
- Match the symbol to the point. Decoration is half of the effect, so pick the one that suits what you are saying.
- Pair it with plain text. One cursed word in a normal sentence is more unsettling than a whole line of it.
- Preview in place. Different phones draw stacked marks differently, so check how it looks where it will live. For darker lettering without any marks, the gothic font generator is a cleaner option.
Cursed text copy and paste examples
Here is the word “Beware” in each cursed style from this cursed text generator, so you can compare the moods side by side. Type your own words in the box at the top of the page and they all update.

The marks do most of the work, and the symbol around the text sets the tone. The same word reads very differently between a pair of watching eyes and a pair of candles.
How cursed text works
A cursed font is not a font file. The haunted look comes from two Unicode features working together. The first is combining marks, small characters designed to attach to the letter before them, such as accents and dots. A cursed text generator adds a stack of them above, through and below each letter, so the glyphs seem to ooze and warp. The second is ordinary symbols: skulls, candles, eyes, spiders and chains are all characters, so putting them either side of the text is just typing.
Because everything is a character, the output stays text. You can select it, paste it into any app that accepts text, and edit it afterwards. It also means the final appearance depends on the font of the app showing it, so the same cursed text can look sharper in one place and tamer in another.
Cursed text for Halloween, horror posts and creepypasta
The most common reason people look for creepy text is seasonal. Halloween captions, spooky stories and horror threads all benefit from text that looks like it has been touched by something. A few ways to use it well:
- One corrupted word. In a short horror story, a single cursed word in an otherwise normal sentence is far more unsettling than a paragraph of it.
- A cursed title or header. Put the title in a cursed gothic style and keep the story itself readable.
- A creepypasta signature. A short line in a cursed style at the end of a post works like a calling card.
- Spooky bios for October. A light cursed style on your name line, with a candle or web, is enough to change the mood.
- Haunted game and server themes. Channel names and announcements in a cursed style set the tone for a themed event.
Cursed text ideas you can try
Not sure what to write? Short, ominous phrases suit the style because they stay readable. Paste any of these into the box above and see what they look like:
- Do not look behind you
- It is still in the house
- Something is wrong
- Do not answer
- It knows your name
- Welcome back
- Tonight, again
Names work too. A username, a clan tag or a character name in a cursed style looks deliberate, as long as the field you paste it into accepts combining marks.
Cursed text on Discord, TikTok and Instagram
- Discord. Messages and nicknames generally accept cursed text, and it is popular in themed servers. Heavy styles get clipped at the edge of the line, and some servers moderate it, so check the rules.
- TikTok. Captions, comments and the bio take it. For on-screen text, a short cursed word as an overlay reads best.
- Instagram. Bios and captions work. Leave a blank line above and below heavy styles so the marks do not run into the neighbouring text.
- Other apps. WhatsApp, Telegram, Snapchat and most messengers display it, though the look depends on the device font.
- Usernames. Handles usually only allow plain letters and numbers. Use a cursed style in your display name or bio, and keep the handle itself plain so people can find you.
Making cursed text more readable
The trap with this style is that the scarier it gets, the less of it survives. A few adjustments keep the effect without losing the words:
- Use a lighter style. Cursed and Cursed Whisper keep far more of the word than Cursed Heavy.
- Shorten the text. Two or three words stay legible when a whole sentence turns to noise.
- Add space. A blank line above and below stops the marks from colliding with other lines.
- Pair it with plain text. Put the important words in plain letters and keep only the title or one word cursed.
- Try a mark-free alternative. The gothic font generator gives a dark look without any stacked marks.
Accessibility and being a good neighbour
Cursed text is decoration, and decoration has a cost for readers. Screen readers can struggle with long strings of marks, and heavy styles can overlap the lines around them. Keep names, links and anything people need to understand in plain text, use cursed styles sparingly, and respect rules in servers and communities that restrict this kind of text.
More dark and spooky text generators
For the raw stacked-mark effect with intensity levels, use the zalgo text generator. For a broken-screen look that stays readable, try the glitch text generator. For blackletter lettering, the calligraphy font generator has Old English and flourishes, and the tattoo font generator previews dark lettering for ink.
Cursed symbols and the mood each one sets
Half of what makes text feel cursed is the symbol you put around it. The marks say “corrupted”, and the symbol says what kind of corrupted. Here is how the options on this page tend to read:
- Eyes 👁 suggests being watched. It suits messages that should feel like they are aimed at the reader, such as a warning or a stalker-style line.
- Skull 💀 is the blunt choice for danger, death and dark humour, and also the most common internet shorthand for laughing, so context matters.
- Candle 🕯 points at rituals, seances and old houses, a slower and more atmospheric kind of dread.
- Web 🕷 🕸 says abandoned, creeping and spooky in a Halloween way, lighter than the skull.
- Chains ⛓ suggests being trapped or bound, useful for dungeon, prison and dark fantasy themes.
- Bats, crosses and dark moons from the gothic wraps in the main catalog push the look toward vampire and gothic horror.
Keep one symbol per line. Two different symbols fight for attention, and the eye reads the line as decoration instead of a threat.
Cursed text for streamers, YouTubers and horror creators
People who make horror content use creepy text generators constantly, because on-screen and in-description text is part of the atmosphere. Streamers use a cursed title for a horror game night, YouTubers use it in video titles, descriptions and community posts, and writers use it for chapter headings in serialised horror. A few habits keep it effective:
- Save it for the reveal. Use plain text throughout and switch to a cursed style at the one moment that matters.
- Check the preview. Video titles and descriptions clip differently on desktop and mobile, so look at both before you publish.
- Keep search terms plain. Cursed lettering does not match a normal search, so put the words people will look for in ordinary text, and use the cursed version for style.
- Match the series. Pick one or two cursed styles and use them consistently, so they become part of your look instead of random noise.
The same applies to Discord communities and game servers: a consistent cursed style for event announcements or channel headers builds a theme faster than a mix of different effects.
Is this cursed text generator free?

Frequently asked questions
What is cursed text?
Cursed text is text made to look haunted, corrupted or wrong. It usually combines stacked Unicode combining marks (the same effect zalgo uses) with dark symbols such as skulls, candles, eyes and chains. It is a look rather than a specific font, which is why this page offers many versions of it.
What is the difference between cursed text and zalgo text?
They share the same engine, but the pages serve different goals. The zalgo generator gives you the raw stacked marks at a chosen intensity. Cursed text adds the horror styling people actually want when they search for it: eyes, skulls, candles, webs, gothic lettering and reversed text. If you only want the glitchy mark effect, use the zalgo page. If you want something that looks haunted, stay here.
How do I make cursed text?
Type your text into the box above and each cursed style rewrites it instantly. Tap a style to copy it, then paste it into your bio, a Discord message, a caption or a game chat. No download and no account.
Where can I use cursed text?
Anywhere that accepts normal text, such as messages, captions, bios and posts. It is standard Unicode, so it pastes cleanly. Display behaviour differs by app, and some name fields remove or reject combining marks, so try a short sample first. The lighter styles are the safest.
Why is some cursed text cut off or overlapping?
The stacked marks extend above and below each line, and many apps clip the text box at the line height. The heavier a style is, the more it overlaps the line above and below it. Pick a lighter style, or add a blank line before and after the text so the marks have room.
Does cursed text copy as text or as an image?
As real text. That means it can be searched and selected, but it also means it is only as spooky as the app that displays it. Fonts and apps decide how the marks are drawn.
Is this cursed text generator free?
Yes. It is free, unlimited and runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type leaves your device.
